When the Chinese Communist Party launched the persecution campaign against Falun Gong 20 years ago, the world was, understandably, caught off-guard. After all, few in the west even knew what Falun Gong was, nor did they realize there were 100 million people doing Falun Gong in China at the time.

While some western media did their homework and produced investigative reports that provided real insight into the crisis (in 2001, the Wall Street Journal won a Pulitzer Prize exposing the violent campaign against Falun Gong practitioners and the Washington Post followed with their own ground-breaking coverage), for the most part, news coverage of Falun Gong has been very sparse, and in some cases, framed by the Chinese regime’s relentless drum of propaganda.
