Case details:

On November 5, 2008, Mr. Liu Chuanjiang was “sentenced” to prison in an illegal trial held at Wuyiling Intermediate Court for practicing Falun Gong. He was initially held in the ninth ward at Jiamusi Prison, but was then one of nine practitioners moved on February 21, 2011 to a “Strict Management team.”

According to sources inside China, like others held there, Liu was apparently tortured and his condition deteriorated quickly. However, given that two other Falun Gong practitioners had already died at the prison within two weeks (see Qin Yueming and Yu Yungang), the facility’s personnel were hesitant to send him to a hospital. They first took him back to the third ward and then to the prison hospital, claiming he was suffering from heart problems.

Liu passed away there at around 1am on March 8, 2011. He was 55 years old. His body was removed from the infirmary an hour later and two days after that, on March 10, his family was coerced by the authorities into approving his cremation.
